Linda Ronstadt remembers Kenny Edwards: ‘A beacon to me’
Here is an excerpt from the article in the LA Times by – Randy Lewis:
He had excellent creative ideas, and didn’t always get the credit that others did. When we recorded “You’re No Good,” Andrew gets the obvious credits, but Kenny supplied the skeleton, the basic framework of that low guitar and bass part that gave it a completely different sound. That gave Peter [Asher] and Andrew something to build on. – See more at: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/music_blog/2010/08/linda-ronstadt-kenny-edwards.html#sthash.zgBzHq1H.bSOrARQ8.dpuf
Excerpt from an interview with Johnette Napolitano Written by Marc Farr
“Linda Ronstadt. It really, really affected me when I heard she could no longer sing, and I’m covering her on this tour. She was a huge influence on me. I saw her in the 70’s, when she wore that little Boy Scout uniform—San Diego Sports Arena—I went right to the thrift store and got a Boy Scout uniform! I wore it for a year. So, if I am going to cite anyone as an influence as a singer. I also don’t think people appreciate how technically amazing she is as a singer, and how studied she is. She would say things about music. I mean, she was a scientist about it. I remember reading an interview when she said something about how difficult rock is. That you basically take up the same space as the guitar. She went on to such brilliant work, like Nelson Riddle. I’d love to do something like that.”
